Told mostly from Goldsby's perch at the grand piano, Waltz of the Asparagus People illustrates the differences between Americans and Europeans, applauds the similarities, and muses over the consequences of her expatriate lifestyle.

Fünf Jahre nach ihrem ersten autobiographischen Geschichtenband Piano Girl, nun endlich die Fortsetzung der unglaublichen musikalischen und persönlichen Abenteuer von Robin Goldsby: Walzer der Spargelleute sind Geschichten wie sie das Leben schrieb, und zwar das Leben einer amerikanischen Pianistin in Europa.
Die Saga geht in Deutschland weiter, die Autorin beschreibt mit trockenem Humor und einem untrüglichen Blick für das Absurde die Welt der Hotel Piano Lounges und Konzertbühnen, so wie jede Menge anderer Situationen die sie am Piano begleitet.
Goldsby gibt mit der ihr eigenen skurrilen Mischung aus Pathos und Witz einen Einblick in das Arbeitsleben einer Musikerin, und sie zeigt uns, was es bedeutet, Kinder in einem fremden Land groß zu ziehen. Und wie die Musik ihr immer wieder das Gefühl gibt zu Hause zu sein - egal wo sie gerade ist.
